AZFRW Adopt a Highway Sign

Caring for America Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup. Our area we clean is located between mile post 174 - 175.5 on I - 10.
We only clean a one mile strip that is on the WEST side of  I -10 going Southbound  Coming south from the Phoenix area that is just after you cross the Gila River Bridge. Coming north from the Grande Valley/Tucson area it is located 13 miles north of Casa Grande.  Coming from the Grande Valley/Tucson area members will need to exit on Riggs Road and come back to mile post 174. (DO NOT CROSS THE MEDIAN, it is a $250 fine).
The plan is to have enough members so we can divide the mile into quarters. You may park next to your quarter area to clean.
There is also a very large dirt area where you may park located at the Casa Blanca Road exit also on the WEST side of I -10.
We will supply you with a vest, gloves, trash pole grabbers (so you won't hurt your back) trash bags, and water.
Please plan on meeting for lunch immediately following to celebrate the end of highway cleaning for 2009!
Contact our Caring for American Chair, Mary Baumbach to sign up and for more information:480-496-0852 maryb85044@yahoo.com
Thank you,
Leona Johnston, AzFRW President

The Adopt a Highway Volunteer Program is a national litter awareness program where groups volunteer to pick up litter off of Arizona's freeways and highways. Each year more than 1700 groups participate in removing litter on Arizona's highways saving approximately $1,800,000 in taxpayer money.

Arizona's program started in 1988 with approximately 120 groups.  By 1991, all available mileage was adopted in the metropolitan areas.  By fall of 1995, more than 1300 groups had adopted over 2300 miles of Arizona's highways. In 2005, there are more than 1750 groups with 12,285 volunteers adopting approximately over 3,100 of the more than 6,500 available miles of Arizona highways.

Groups include civic and community groups, business organizations and even families.

Information is available on similar volunteer opportunities in your city or county.
