Historian: Why
Bother?
A local club
president finished her two year term without receiving a scrapbook.
What’s the big
deal? It’s only a scrapbook – a bunch of corny old pictures, old
napkins, newspaper articles, programs, and newsletters.
How important can
all that be? Why take all that time, effort, cost, and sorting the
consuming details – just to make a scrapbook?
Answer: Your
club's history.
One of your members
will use her time, efforts, some cost, and track down all those details
to put together this tangible record of club activities, memories,
events, political accomplishments, and fun moments – in sum:
The
celebration of your club’s life.
The club’s scrapbook
is a statement of history. It gives your members a recollection of good
times, great accomplishments, and how much everyone has changed. It is
the legacy that is passed on to the next generation of Republican Women
who are looking for role models who led the way for them.
When is your club’s
birthday? (the anniversary of your charter as an AzFRW club) Have a
party! Ask all your past presidents to bring their scrapbooks. Share
these precious memories. Celebrate the years captured in the pages of
all those old, beautiful memory books.
Your club historian
is a valuable member of your leadership team. Give her support.
Encourage her work. It is the work of history.
Honor your club’s
history - it is important.
